Prof. Ahmed Alsagoafi  and me are pleased to share the release of our research article in the esteemed World Journal of English Language (Scopus Q1):

“Revolutionizing Assessment: Leveraging ChatGPT for Automated Item Generation – An AI-Driven Exploratory Study with EFL Teachers.”

 Study Highlights:

  • This study investigates ChatGPT’s role in generating exam items for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, with emphasis on test quality, time efficiency, and teacher satisfaction.

  • Participating teachers praised ChatGPT’s effectiveness in crafting questions, citing time savings and enhanced creativity in assessment design.

  • However, limitations persist—particularly regarding the tool’s capacity to meet nuanced assessment requirements, such as alignment with curriculum-specific learning outcomes.

  • The findings underscore the need for targeted professional development to support teachers in optimizing AI tools and refining prompt design.

Final Reflections:While the integration of ChatGPT in assessment offers promising efficiency gains, challenges concerning validity and reliability remain. We advocate for continued research and teacher training to fully harness the potential of AI-driven solutions in educational assessment.
